Portfolio
Hi, I'm Laura! I'm a geeky multimedia designer! Welcome to my portfolio! My projects displayed are from my BDes Graphic Design and MSc Design & Digital Media degrees - including graphic design, digital design, game design, and 3D Prop Art.

Final Project - MSc Design & Digital Media
A 3D environment that would explore the uses of collectables and puzzles to incentivise exploration from the player. When planning how to design my 3D environment I decided to narrow down to a choice of three tales that would be displayed within the game. The chosen tales were Rapunzel and Hansel and Gretel. Rapunzel is known for her large tower, Hansel and Gretel for the cottage made out of bread and biscuits and the seven crows for the crows and well. I felt it was important to choose stories that had an immediately recognisable visual as it will allow the player to feel immersed and, at the same time, comfortable when exploring if the environment and visuals are, to a certain extent, something they already are familiar with.

Currency Design
Brief: Create a storyline and series of new currency for Meldelaide (originally Australia) based in the year 2146 celebrating their 100 year anniversary of the founding of their nation and modes of travel connecting the new 5 nations.

White Stone Canoe
A playable environmental walkthrough experience based off the story 'The White Stone Canoe'.

Hide & Seek
Pixel art styled 2D obstacle game. Rescue your escaped cat in the utopian city without being caught by CCTV.

Final Project - BDes Graphic Design
To create/brand a corporation that sells social substitutions to take advantage of the social climate from the aftermath of COVID-19. It delves deeper into the topic exploring not only the substitutions people used but also how corporations can take advantage of their customers needs in order to make a profit. This was particularly relevant since the Covid-19 Pandemic, where millions suffered social isolation for the first time and were having to use substitutes to combat their loneliness. Taking advantage of these people’s social needs is something I could definitely see corporations doing in the future.

Interactive Museum Exhibit
Brief: Create a small museum exhibit displaying the story of a chosen person and the artefacts associated with them.

IncludeU
Develop a website that will enable present and future students to discuss how they have assimilated into university life. The website intends to let users share their insights and offer counsel to people applying to universities. I was in charge of the web design and illustrations. This included creating visuals for the statistics shown on the home page and creating mock ups for each page of our website.

2022 Degree Exhibition Concept
I got the opportunity to take part part of a team with peers to create the branding for our own degree show, including creating mockups displaying our brands on
socials, websites, leaflets etc. I was given the chosen symbol design, slogan etc - which I was then allowed to interpret into my own style/vision.

Ants Infographic Motion Graphics
This animation is an infographic displaying the bizarre world of ants. In this infographic it will explore the hierarchy of an ant colony, their life cycle and show some of the most interesting or common types of ants found around the world. The design of the infographic and the information will be quite simplistic as to not overwhelm the viewer with complicated facts and images - especially if it’s a new topic for them entirely. This will be made to educate children or teenagers the cycles involved in an ant colony – with the colours and illustrations making it appealing to a younger viewership. The tone of voice for the infographic will be non-intimidating, using simplistic phrases and adding reassurance whenever information presented may become unnerving to the viewer.

Vive le Fringe - Institute Français
Design posters and leaflet advertising Vive le Fringe. I had free rain to decided on the concept. During research I found the french tradition of “Poisson d’Avril". On April 1st in France, people (mainly children) use paper fish to play an April Fools trick. This involves sticking a paper fish onto the back of as many adults as possible. And then running away yelling “Poisson d’Avril !”. This is a fun way of bringing a usually unrecognised french tradition to the public attending Vive le Fringe. Using this tradition as the inspiration for the design makes it very intriguing to a viewer as it is not expected.

Girl in the Box
Our assignment was to create a short title sequence for a book we have read. I chose to use the book 'The Girl In The Box' by Robert J Crane.

Street Flower
The video follows the story of a small flower trying to survive within the city as litter and pollution surrounds them. The video is to inform how nature can be affected by humanity's actions.

2021 Degree Show Motion Graphics
I was asked by head of graphic design department to create a short motion graphics video advertising the 2021 Degree Show, based off the design concepts provided by their design department.

Words of Women
Bilingual publication exploring women in poetry. The publication would be created as part of the history of Women History Month, and would celebrate the creative minds and writings of female poets both past and present.
